Campaign Issues

Here is where I stand on issues currently facing the City of Manitowoc.

Please contact at anytime to provide input and to discuss further.

Taxes

Property taxes continue to rise year over year yet the services provided to residents haven’t changed and government keeps getting bigger.  The last three years, the City portion of my property taxes have increased an average of 4.4%.

As an alderperson, I will fight for fiscal discipline to decrease taxes and maximize the tax dollar for necessary services and infrastructure.

Borrowing/Debt

With taxes increasing, it is imperative to determine how to fund services and projects with limited or no borrowing.   The City’s budget indicates over $11M in borrowing in 2024.

While I am not opposed to borrowing, particularly when interest rates are low, we must make sure that tax dollars are spent appropriately before borrowing.

Leveraging my finance background, I will critically review spending and the budget to limit borrowing.

Roads

Simply put, many of the roads in the City need to be addressed.  I frequently hear from friends that they are not happy with the conditions of the roads.  Add to that increased traffic, including trucks, will resullt in the roads deteriorating further unless addressed.

As an alderperson, I will make road improvement a priority and fight to not simply fund the improvements through borrowing/debt.

Public Safety

I have the utmost respect for the brave men and women that serve the Manitowoc community, putting their life on the line daily.  Public safety has to be a priority of every city government.   This includes recruiting and retaining the best firefighters, paramedics and police officers.   In addition to competitive pay and benefits, the policies and culture need to be attractive for all.

I have significant experience in recruitment, retention and building an attractive culture allowing me to provide input on what the City maintains a fully staff fire/rescure and police departments.
